CDT’19 Trailmile 2915 – East Glacier (Flipping North to Montana)

After having faced a decent amount of miles in snow close to the border to Colorado, it made my decision to flip north to Montana even easier. I took the public bis from Chama to Santa Fe where I stayed the night in a Motel and then flew out to Kallispell in Montana the next day. I took a ride to Whitefish and stayed another night to catch the Amtrak train on the morning to East Glacier Park Village.

There I waited for my package to arrive, which did not happen, so I decided to wait for a day or two for my snow gear to arrive. After it was Friday and the gear was still not there I bought another set in the village and set off.

The Glacier NP was absolutely astounding and beautiful and I thoroughly enjoyed hiking in it although the trail was pretty rough and the weather pattern was handing me a rainshower every afternoon and sometimes at night as well. Combined with the remaining snow on top of the four mountain passes it resulted in pretty much constantly wet shoes.

Today I arrived back on East Glacier with another hiker from Germany that I met today and we will continue south towards Colorado starting tomorrow. I am looking forward towards the Bob Marshal wildernis and it’s unique challenges and am glad to be back hiking after the forced break during my travels to Montana.
